Landscapes and Guardians Thematic and expressive consistence which we see on Isidora’s works is not common and usual artist’s quality on their early exhibitions. While on thematic and motive plan dominates landscape and specific fresco-treated portrait, on expressive plan we can see on one side, deep melancholy of the portrait, and primeval, elementary strong landscape on the other side. Origination of Isidora Ivanovic is spirituality of religious painting. This form of spiritual support eases her to clearly formulate symbolic frames of her paintings. Guardian angels and saints stand in the most intimate connection with a landscape or a building, and they redeem them from the frames of profane and transfer to another sacred dimension. In that transfer between the worlds, the painter had to turn to some artistic and aesthetic problems. When one artwork with a religious function steps out from the sacred space and goes to museums or galleries, it also has to be looked at aestheticly, not only religiously. Symbolism of these kinds of artworks complicates, grades, they become partly selfreferent which we see on Isidora’s work. Her angels and saints are not icons, but they are also not simple art quotes to which postmodern is used to, they are places of symbolic exchange, places of communication. This communication the painter makes through very confident artistic character: expressive drawing, rich chromatic palette, accented texture and very often turbulent composition. There is one artistic world infront of us which is still in it’s growth, but in it’s main characteristics already definite and defined.
